Will Work for Free Time

I need to not neglect this blog as much as I have. I've been insanely busy, what with a polish on one screenplay, outlining another, and a very time-consuming gig that has me shooting and editing footage as an aside for a TV show. The pay is okay, except I've been working full-time and I've yet to see a dime, for the simple reason I'm a freelancer, and they love dangling the carrot. This is a cultural thing about Mexico that annoys the hell out of me, withholding payment for up to six months-- for reasons companies claim are "bureaucratic". So no, it isn't just me this happens to.

This week I have several screenplay translations to work on: two I've had since before but they've been put on hold for various reasons. The third one I should be done with by Friday, if all goes well.

Still, other things have come up: a series of meetings about a TV show I've been working on with a few people, a photo shoot with an agency interested in having me on board as a directing ally for their upcoming projects, and several interested parties in my writing.

It's a lot, and still nothing at all... yet.

I'll be back soon.

Still Jonesing

As I've mentioned before, I enjoyed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, warts and all (and it has enough warts to speak for the entire Indy saga). Yet I feel like I need to share two excellent links that point out fundamental flaws that could easily have been remedied in the script stage.

The first is a rather long but fascinating article by my friend Jonathan London, which dissects the screenplay almost element by element and scene by scene. I agree with everything. Except the monkeys, Jonathan. I know I'm likely alone on this, but I laughed out loud with the monkeys.

The second is the by-now (in)famous "nuke the fridge" syndrome, which I happen to find dead-on, but also I envy because I wish I could have seen it for the obvious goof it is...

...and yet I thought it was pretty damn cool.
